About Us

Our Story

THE NEON STAR OF FLINDERS LANE. THE CITY'S BEST ASIAN FUSION DINER; CHA CHING.

An intersection of East and West, Cha Ching has wowed Melbournians since its launch in October 2022 with top-tier Asian-fusion dishes and one of the coolest interiors to ever grace a CBD laneway.

The success is a dream come true for Owner & Head Chef Ken Leung, who spent three years developing Cha Ching.

From working in Hong Kong’s Michelin Star Saint George Restaurant in 2012 to experience in kitchens across Melbourne’s elite food scene (Lucy Liu, Red Spice Road and Silks Restaurant), Ken’s hospitality experience spans over 15 years.

The hospitality gene runs deep in the Leung family; Ken’s parents own and have run a Cantonese and dim sum restaurant in Kowloon, Hong Kong for over five decades.

It was during his time in the kitchens of Melbourne’s Chinese cuisine front-runners, that Ken was inspired to forge his own fusion menu; more elevated, adventurous and modern, the likes of which Melbourne hadn’t seen before.

Cha Ching’s menu is an homage to Asian cuisine, emboldened by the multiculturalism of Melbourne.

Street food with finesse and re-imagined traditional cuisine, every dish pops with vibrancy and colour.

Customers have been drooling over the entire menu since Day 1 but one dish in particular has become the Cha Ching signature; the Roasted Duck Thai Coconut Red Curry.

Just how popular is this dish?

It comes through on nearly every docket, every single night, says Ken.
Playing on Ken’s international culinary experiences, the menu also stars Beef Tartar with black truffle, lime, apple & wasabi, Hokkaido Scallops with miso butter broth and Salmon Sashimi with green namjim, coconut cream and dill.

Meet Our Drinks

The drinks menu is a guaranteed fun time too – cocktails designed by Melbourne’s own Sean McMahon and a wine list curated by Toby Stephens, who judged the International Cool Climate Wine Show in 2022.

Whether it’s the smoky bubble theatrics or flavours of vodka, Hubba Bubba syrup, lime, cranberry and grapefruit, the pink Bubble Gum cocktail has become Cha Ching’s signature drink.

The bold innovation of the cocktails carries through the entire list; ‘I Love You So Matcha’ is mixed with imported Japanese Green Tea and ‘Train To Busan’ packs a punch with authentic Korean Gochujang Chilli Paste.

The vivacity and high energy doesn’t stop with the menus though.

Cha Ching’s interior is a beacon of neon colour on Flinders Lane, designed by Tom Orton and Kim Lai from Brunswick design studio We Are Humble.

High bar seating and dark green upholstery meet coloured LED lights, neon signage and beautifully iridescent window film – a lavish investment that makes Cha Ching feel like you’re dining under the glow of Hong Kong’s famous neon signs.

With wait times exceeding a month for Saturday night bookings and the new Bottomless quickly filling weeknights, Cha Ching is one of the CBD’s hottest new restaurants…and it’s only just warming up!
